320 ? not 320i ? (archive)

I checked the trunk emblem and didn't really think anything of it until recently. It says 320, not 320i. Manufactured in November 1982, considered a 1983. I made sure there were no breaks in the emblem in case the "i" fell off. There are no breaks. Is this just a regular occurrance or do I have a special model?
