hello all,
My project car is underway and a couple people have suggest that I find a 323 LSD, I am in the process of converting a 2002 into a 2002 /w a m20 motor and getrage 5spd. My mechanic suggested trying to find a 323 diff, I would like gobs of torque, a 3.64 (?) would be nice , Should this item be in short supply or super expensive, i would rather find a 320 LSD. Does anyone know the difference btw the two? Would runing a 320is LSD on a motor thats turnig about 210hp at the wheels shred it? Thanks for the help. MK
The 320 diff and the 323 diff are basically identical but with different ratios. Early 320's were 3.64:1 late ones were 3.91:1. 323's had a 3.45:1 ratio. Either diff, if healthy, should be able to handle around 200 hp. Check the condition of the clutches and bearings before you install one though. The 3.91:1 diffs are probably the easiest to find and good ones can typically be found in the $250.00 range.
