I wondered the same today. I want to install my Sony C90 cd player. I went to the store to see them hook one up to see if it would eject upright, that was my main concern, i forgot about depth. Is it exactly 5.5 inches deep?

I checked with an installer today and he says a standard DIN sized unit will not work without a kit that lifts the radio up about 1/2 inch. That puts it in the way of the ash tray but i guess ya gotta give up something.
