The "e" engine stands for eta. It had a 2.7 liter displacement with 150hp.

later on BMW built the 2.5 liter "I" for injection and some cars had the "s" for sport handling package. It had a higher top end and was faster.

The later 2.5 liter "i" engine had more horsepower roughly 165hp-170hp.

Some people use the baby six and increase the displacement to 2.8/2.9 liters and have been known to use a turbo disel 524td crank. Metric mechanic wild bulid you one of these. Price 5$k without crank or core.

Important:IN all baby six you MUST replace the timing belts - TIMING BELT FAILURE results in expensive head repairs. When it goes it ruins the head and valves!

I am going to source an e36 m3 engine and tranny for my e21.
