Guys,

I've never seen one with an "S" cast into the housing.....I'm pretty sure that they came with a large white "S" PAINTED on the diff housing, they also have a tag under one of the rear cover bolts(like all BMW diffs) that will have an "S" and then the ratio, like "S 391" for a 3.91:1 limited slip diff (non-LSD will only have the number, no "S"). Beware though as the tags are easy to swap. You need to jack up the rear of the car and turn one of the rear wheels, if the opposite rear wheel turns in the same direction, it's LSD!! If the diff is out of the car, you can turn the input flange and try to hold one of the side flanges, if both side flanges want to turn (same direction), it's LSD!!

Good Luck, Bret in NC

does anyone know how to spot a LSD versus the stock 320i diff. Any numbers, morphological features, etc?

Thanks

Mark

P.S. I just scored a 22mm rear antisway from the junkyard, complete with mounting hardware for 6 bucks! I noticed cornering improvements immediately, bolted right on in 15 minutes. Cheapest suspension upgrade ever!

Check to see if there is a letter 'S' cast into the diff casing - if so , it may well be a LSD

Best of luck
