It works on your car too. Basically, there's a coolant line that runs into the intake manifold (on fuel injected models) to help during a cold start, and then flows from there into the block. As your car heats up, now you have a hot intake manifold that heats the air thus producing less horsepower.

Removing and capping the lines might affect coolant flow, so running a bypass is the best option. If you're feeling adventurous, run a line from your air conditioning vents to one side of the intake to help keep it a little cooler and give you a little more horse.
