97 M3 Gas smell problem (archive)

I just bought a 97 BMW M3 about 4 months ago. Just recently, I encountered a gas smell inside the car while driving. The gas smell is not consistent with a full tank or an empty tank. I brought it to a small shop and the BMW dealer, but they cannot find the problem. There is no physical leak anywhere. I don't know where to go from here. Any help is greatly appreciated.
