where is the solenoid? sorry but i dont know mucha bout cars

Sometimes this happens on my 83, and it is indeed the solonoid...what you have to do is bang on it with something along the lines of a metal rod, socket wrench, the club anti theft device...etc. Sometimes the soleniod can get stuck, and the starter gear won't engage. Give it a try, anyway, and if that's not it, your battery could be dead due to alternator failure. If there is a red light that stays on even when your key is out on the instrument panel, that's what it is. Otherwise, I don't know. Keep us informed, though.
