heres what I just did today, from my parts car,
first take off the steering tierods, then you can unbolt them from the top, push them down, but you will have to take off the swaybar from the front and one side, then the whole assembly will flop outward, I had to use a clamp to get the sway bar out of the other assembly,
then use the spring comp. to get the springs freely moving around, then what i did was take a hammer and a ball point chisle, and theres a screw top to keep the strut in, i pinged it until it came off, then the whole top of the strut came out,

any Q's just ask

btw, with shorter springs you wont need a compressor to put them back in
