I had some thin cardboard jammed into the hazard switch and bumped it out by accident. Couldn't get it back in again so I took off the lens got it to catch and discovered the dash blinker light suddenly came on when I got the haz light just right. Got it pressed it and tried the blinkers and they worked! So I'm fixing two issues in one go. I'll try taking about the flasher unit later.
For a free car (or otherwise!) it sure starts right up and idles nice. I can't believe its never been rebuilt over its 214,000 miles and 20 years. The quibo looked effectively new so somebody has done some work, yet there are no receipts to support it. I even have its first (450 miles) oil change receipt.
Got to adjust the valves and go over all the smog crap before taking it to be smog checked. Then I can finally register the thing.

" A few things on my project 81 320i don't work electrically. Dash lights, blinkers and the electric mirror. I have both side mirrors but only one control. Does the control only control the passenger side mirror? Or how do I switch between them if both.
Does all these items share the same fuse or circuit?
Where is the blinker box located?
Enquiring minds want to know!

Peter , the little switch in the mirror control knob housing is what switches from left to right .
If the pass. side doesn't respond it is more likely the switch itself as opposed to the mirror .

The blinker relay is under the steering column .
If you can't hear it clicking on and off them check this first .
If it blinks initially then stops it is a bulb most likely .
If it doesn't begin to click then it is the switch itself .
The switch is incorporated into the stalk base .
Its under the steering column .
It is made to be non-serviceable but you can drill out the rivets and work on it if you are familiar with electrics .
I also have a spare stalk that works .

The dash lights tend to burn out eventually .
Not all at once though , there are three of them above the instrument cluster .
To change the bulbs it is not necessary to remove the wheel but it sure makes things a lot simpler .
