Hello all,

I'm a regular on the E30 and 2002 boards.. but new to this board.

How can I tell what year a 320i motor came from?

I bought one that I am going to throw in my 02 (high perf cam, polished valve cover, rebuilt and shaved/bored head, etc.) but I don't know what year 320i it is from.

I want to know so that if/when I need to buy replacement parts for it (such as alternator, etc.) I know what year to ask/order it for.

it has the following markings (if they mean anything)

1269506 - (on upper left corner)
79 - (middle of block)
7F - (middle of block under "79")

is the first number a VIN?
