I bought an '83 320i automatic for my daughter. I don't get it but she doesn't like to drive a stick. The engine seems to run well with no noises. I replaced all the vacum lines when I had to get at the starter and resealed the intake manifold. The compression is good. But when I shift in gear it is a pig. No obvious slipping in the tranny and it shifts OK. It just takes a lot of throttle to drive it "normally". Does anyone have any thoughts. At this point it sure does not drive like the "ultimate driving machine"
