" I have a spare set of springs & I want to try out the lowered ride. I'm cutting one coil off w/ a metal saw, but don't see a sensible way to bend the first 1/2 coil to lay the end coil flat so it will seat properly into the collar.
For anyone who's done this, did you get a propane torch and just heat up the section 1/2 coil from the end and then bend it or bang it (which is best ?) flat...is that how this is done ? I tried to muscle wrench the end coil flat but no way can I exert enough force to effect it.
Also, is it better for seating to mount the cut end of the coil up or mount the cut end down when installing the assembly?
I'm also thinking about wire tie-ing the coils down onto the collars in case I go air-borne. Want to prevent the coils from coming loose when uncompressed. Was thinking about just going to Home Depot and getting some very fine wire to hook up. Anything better/preferred out there I should use instead ?
TIA "
.
If youre only lopping one coil off then you really don't have to worry about the "pigtail" end sticking up .
But there is a preffered method to flatten it down like before .
Heat up a small section (1-2") of the coil about 1/3 from the end untill it is red hot , then flip it over and push it down against the ground until it is a flat end .
Thats about it .
As far as safety wiring them in , again if youre only doing 1 coil then you really shouldn't have to .
You have Bilstein Sports don't you ?
But it is recommended if they are moving around in the perches .
I've had good luck using the bigger zip-ties for this on my car .
And you want to mount the cut section on top when installed .

P.S.: Hey do you still have your second set of rear discs ?
