can you run a 77 320i F/I without the smog stuff? (archive)

Hi all,
got a newbie question. I just bought a 77 320i for 50$, as far as I can tell, the only major thing wrong with it is it has a busted rocker arm. The P.O. took about half of the F.I. off to fix it and it's sat since. I'm pretty familiar with this engine from 12 02's within the last 10 yrs, but never played with fuel injection.
If I can, I'd like to rip all the smog crap out and keep the F/I, my alternative is to slap an '02 manifold/weber on it. Also wondering how hard it is to maintain the fuel injection.
