Can I asume that your yanking the engine from one of your 323's ?
If yes then you can actually pull the engine and trans out together as one unit .
You will have to remove the rad first though .
Thats why the 323's have the notched area in the core support where the rad sits , this gives you enough clearence to pull both the trans and engine .

But even on a 4-cylinder you want to remove the hood and position the hoist in front of the car .
