I've never seen an e21 that didn't have the full vin # stamped on the fender. That's pretty weird. What does it say on your dash? How do you register your car without the vin #?

I quess I did not mean the frame rail:
What I meant is yes - near the paint code id.
Lift the hood up:
on the left side of the car stamped into the metal
above the passenger fender is the vin #.

But it is not a 17 number vin - AM I misssing something?
