It is a 78 320i,I can not think of any other place to look for 17 code vin.

Thank you
John

Hey John,
I am curious to know what is the year and make of your car?

I suspect that pre 80 323i's did not have 17 diget vin #s? Does Anyone Know for sure?

I am going to check the vin numbers on the glass.
All my paperwork and the stamping on the car only gives the vin I mentioned previously.

Or I could just be missing something

79 323i and confused about the vin number?

Cheers

Joe

My 320i has only seven digits as well. It is a 1979. Besides, car fax only has records of cars back to 86 or something like that. I tried to run my car as well. I don't know why the VIN is only 7 digits long. I can only guess that federal regs at that time didn't require that the VIN be 17 digits long and that the 7 digit code is a European VIN.
