Help!! Pistons go higher than block! (archive)

I'm so close to finishing an engine modification, I can smell it (or is that blood on my knuckles I smell?). But after I put the crank and pistons back in the block, the head can't go on, because the tops of the pistons are higher than the top of the block. The pistons are stock, but the crank is from a 2002. I was under the impression this is commonly done, what am I doing wrong? Do I have to use 2002 pistons, or is there a "stepped" head gasket that might add the right height to clear these pistons? Thanks for the advise! Josh
