.....I'm pretty sure that an 83 starter isn't interchangeable with a 79. Different motors, you know, it's the ol 2.0 vs 1.8 situation. Someone confirm or deny this, but I'm pretty sure this is true. This could be your problem, though I thought it was more of a fittment issure than an interface issue. Also, I've had times on my car when all the accesories worked fine, yet the battery was not being charged by the alternator, so the car was not starting. Might want to check the alternator connections/alternator itself as well. Good luck!
