Proper adjustment of a Warm regulator should be done using fuel pressure instruments, and suffice
to say that tuning one correctly is a fine art.
But....
I have adjusted mine a number of times ( to correct a warm start problems ). The one installed in my '81 323i is a vacuum diaphram type regulator. Inside this type I was able to adjust the tension of the springs by winding up the seat that is fixed to the diaphram. I'm only talking about quarter turns here, really minor adjustments.
But the basic idea is that the control pressure adjusts the amount of force required to move the baffle plate upwards, which in turn supplies fuel to the injectors. The warm up regulator primarily controls this amount of pressure and excess pressure is send back to tank. Generally the lower the control pressure the easier the baffle plate will come up, providing a richer mixture during cold starting. In the case of the vacuum type when the manifold vacuum is changing, the control pressure is increased/decreased in relation this value.
So as you can probably tell, messing with this too much could dramatically change the fuel/air mixture, effect your cold starting, and warm starting too.
Hope that helps
