That's what they used to call it back in the 70's. You can basically get the same effect by threading a spark plug into the muffler, VERY CLOSE TO THE TAILPIPE, and put a cut out in one of the engine spark plug leads through a switch to this tailpipe sparkplug. When you hit it, the cylinder that has the cut-out blows unburned gas in the exhaust system and the spark at the tailpipe lights it off.Don't do it though.
I was foolish enough to screw around with this and almost killed myself by starting a fire in the rear valence of a 70 Maverick. Damn near lit off the fuel tank. With the many failure modes of the fuel system in a 320i, I'd never do this now. Plus looking back on my youth, I was really dumb. Leave the effect for the movies.
This a quick question from my japanese car lover side, how can i get flames to come out of my exhaust like it does on high powered turbo cars? The previews of The Fast and the Furious rekindled old thoughts about this sort of thing
