320i warning lights and starting (archive)

I just bought an 81 320i. When you turn the key it does nothing. If you remove the lower wire to the starter and jump it with a screwdriver, it starts normally. Replace the wire and it starts with the key several more times and then won't. Bad relay? Also, when driving over bumps, a curios warning light in the upper left of the dash flickers. Of what am I being warned? Where can I find an owners manual?
