I was cleaning up around the steering assembly on a 81 318i and there appears to be what was left of some sort of rubber spacer/cushion between the steering rack and each end of the housing that the steering rack fits into along with the steering damper. I'm not talking dis-assenbly of the rack here just looking at it from under the car. Am I right or is it bulit up junk? Anyone ideas would be appreciated.
