Dealer service techs have told me that factory struts typically don't require replacement under 100k miles.
How sure are you that tires are officially eliminated ? I too bought brand new tires, got it mounted and balanced conventionally, and one turned up defective @ under 100 miles use. It took me over three attempts and paid for two more balances until someone had the experience and intelligence to tell me that the problem's with an out of rounded NEW tire. The best way to balance tires these days is on the HUNTER GSP 9700 balance machine. To find a local tire shop w/ this machine, go to HUNTER.COM. It's well worth the money, IMO.
Before you suspect that your shocks are going south, consider also the shock mount bushings. I'm currently replacing mine, and I never would have known that mine were faulty if not for advice by others here on this board to tell me how to look for cracks. If the mounts are faulty, its result is one in which the shocks feel like they are gone. In my situation, even though I felt my ride is not as smooth and damped as before, I ruled out the shocks because I just replaced them w/ new Bilsteins not long ago-and the ride felt like the car needed new shocks.
It's alot easier & cheaper to replace shock mounts than to replace struts/shocks.
