Really nice 320i's are so cheap these days that it would make sense to just buy a rust-free one in good running condition. Around here (east coast) good, solid, original 320i's go for anywhere from $1000 to $3500 for a perfect "is" model. Swapping engines is not difficult, but it's a hassle. It will also cost a little, as you'll end up replacing lots of little stuff like belts, hoses, etc.
