I am in between springs now and I want to cut my front by one coil till I get the $$$$$$ to buy lowering springs. I had the heated before, looked nice but many on this board advised against. Then I got a used stock pair and put them in and I feel like taking the car to the crusher! that's how awful it looks.

I want to be able to do these things myself rather than running to my mechanic every week. Save lotsa $$$$$$$.

How hard are these things to replace? (Springs)
What do I need to cut them?

This is probably the e (100) th time I'm asking this question.

I recently bought an ’82 320i. I don’t have a huge budget, but my plan is to upgrade parts as they need replacing. Nothing too radical mind you. After all there isn’t much reason to try to improve on perfection is there?

First on the list are new shocks. I’d like to be able to use Bilstein but the quote I got for installation puts them out of my price range. Can anyone tell me if it would be unreasonably difficult to install them myself? If not, do you have any tips/suggestions on the job? Otherwise, how about a suggestion on alternative (cheaper) shocks that will not ruin the magnificent handling characteristics of my beloved BMW.

On similar note, if I can save enough on the installation, I’m considering putting in some Eibach springs while I’m at it. Does anyone have any experience with this? Any thoughts or suggestions?

I’m sure that I will have many more questions in the future, but this should do for now.

Thanks,
Ben
