A couple things to check (after you look for the obvious [e.g. suspension bushings and ball joints]):
steering flex disc - between your steering rack and steering column (mine went out on my 528i, had a sway and pull feel)
steering rack adjustments - this is covered by a clear plastic cup on the steering rack (check Haynes for specs adjusting)

Folks I get the scriest shimmy when I apply my brakes softly and knock when i tap on my brakes and knock when I go over bumps.

Upper strut mounts are new, Bilstien shocks are new.

I know something is realled F*&*( down there. Ball joints maybe? WHat is causing my steering to play when I apply brakes. What might be causing the knock? How bad can this get?

Thx
