There should be about half an inch deflection! Otherwise your bushings will need to be replaced (alternator will angle). I'd say you either have the wrong size belt, or your dead battery is from another source (short circuit, dead cell in battery, bad alterantor/voltage regulator, etc.)

it seems like every other day my battery is dead because my alternator belt keeps coming loose. i tighten it as much as it will go, even using a pry bar and i tighten the bolts, but it always seems to come loose anyways. does anyone have any tricks to keep this from happening cuz its a huge hassle to have to charge my battery every other day. and yes it is almost a brand new battery
