Could be 2 problems? Did you check the battery voltage when the car's running? Should be at least 13volts running.
Fuel system generally needs attention after 20 years. I'd check the pump for clicking (should click!), check for fuel at the distributor end (should gush), and finally, pull an injector while hooked up and check for spray.

Before you pull and injector, might want to pull a spark plug and check spark.

81 320i Trouble with idle. After start it dies. Low power when cold. Having to keep it revved up very high. Elec. seems to be ruled out. Suspect fuel pressue and volume.
Intermitant, won't do it with gages hooked up.

Also, fuel indicator flickers up and down.

Also, with A/C on at night Amp light begins to glow red.
Also very faintly at night w/o A/C on. High beams more red.

Also, Idle screw frozen unable to adjust. Using timing to
adjust idle.
