You can fabricate your own brake lines, but only with a good flare kit. The standard ones (like from PepBoys) won't put the required back-angled flare, they only flatten the end. These will not seal.....trust me.....I trashed three new generic lines before giving up. Then my friend, a plumber, came over and knocked one out in five minutes. Only difference was his flare kit versus mine.

It will probably run you about $40. But, two true BMW brake lines probably goes for about that much. It's a valuable tool.


We're finishing up the '80 323i driveline swap into the '83 320is and some issues have popped up. Some of the steel solid brake lines have rusted through and need replacement. Anyone done this? What have you used for replacement lines? Any chance I can get some of the bundy tubing for German cars at the local NAPA and splice into the good parts of the original lines?
