Did you check for spark? Simply disconnect the main coil wire at the distributor and place in close proximity (within 1/4 inch or so) to a grounded bolt (away from anything flammable). Have a friend crank it over and look/listen for spark.

IF none, check points, condensor, and proper voltage to the coil.

Hi all,

I gonna try to start my $200 320i today. Its getting fuel and the battery is good. The starter will sometimes turn over really fast, then sometimes really slow. Is the battery light supposed to stay on while cranking? It ran before but now won't start. I am planning on measuring the voltage at the starter, altenator and the coil. I'm going to clean the main ground for the battery and all of the wire connections for the starter and the altenator. I'm installing a new coil and condensor and plugs. Any other ideas on where to look for an electrical problem? I hope to check the board later today.

TIA,
Randy
