First, before you do anything, you'll need to get rid off your Haynes manual. I would not trust anything in it and it will do you more damage. Get your self a BENTLEY MANUAL for your car (E30). It is by far the best you can by for your car repair and runs below $50.00 from good sources.Check e-bay.

I'm replacing the water pump on my '84 325e. Referring to the Haynes manual it says I have to remove the timing belt tensioner spring before removing the last bolt holding the pump on. Is this so? Thanks in advance.
