I've just installed an entire AC setup to me car the came without it. I replaced all the hoses - some custom made so I could connect to different version condensor. When it was all said and done I pulled a vacuum then filled with R134a retrofit kit. It works pretty well but I don't have a R12 version to compare against. for the money its a no brainer. The main thing is to get the old stuff out of the system. Read the site below.

Does anyone have any experience with doing a R-134a Retrofit on the 320i Compressor? did it work...how well?
