I've never had trouble with my 79, but my 83's starter is just a bear when it comes to being hot outside or if the car's been run for a long time. The soleniod is just a bit too close to the block, and it tends to freeze up when it's hot. What you need to do is to get a piece of wood, or a stick, or "the club" anti-theft device (that's what I use, anyway) and give the soleniod a good tap. The car should start then. I've been doing this for months now, just avoiding the inevitable which is replacing the starter and taking the manifold or fuel dist. off. HTH! -alan 83 320i 79 320i
