What's the best Service Manual to get? (archive)

I just got a 318i ('84) without an owner's manual or service manual. I will be working on the car and need a service manual. What's the best to get? And if anyone knows now, how do I drop the idle? It's humming at about 1800 rpm idle speed. also, the 'inspection' light is on constantly. I'm assuming this is the same as the 'check engine' light on other cars and indicates a bad sensor somewhere. Right? thanks for the info
