for the entire year that i have owned my 79 320i, every time that i accelerated or shifted gears there was a clunk noise that came from the rear end...until friday. i got a buddy of mine to take a look at it and we found out that the rubber bushings on the rear suspension were gone (they are just in front of the rear wheel wells and at the very outside of the body on the big arm that the control arms connect to).i called the dealership and they were 137 each and i needed two, so i called up the pick and pull and got them off of a wrecked 320i, both for $20...an awesome deal. So we took them off of my car only to realize that on one side it was so rusty that the piece of metal that goes under the bushing just fell off, so we ended up having to weld it back on. but after quite a few hours we got both of them in and it fixed it, and its a huge difference, i hated that clunk noise sooooo much. now all i need to do is fix my taiilpipe and then my car wont make any clunk noises. i got a muffler hanger from canadian tire but that doesnt seem to work too well because it still swings and hits the underside of the car when i make left hand turns. any suggestions how i could fix this better, and permanently.
