Not much, to be sure. I think it is basically to tell you if the engine wiring is in okay condition and connected properly. My mechanic probably only used it because I had mentioned to him that I just rewired the car, so he wanted to make sure I did it right. Many cars from this era (just before computers) had a similar diagnostic plug. One wire from the battery, one from the starter, one from the alternator, one from the ignition system, a ground wire, and a couple of others.
The reason I am still doing a lot of work on the car was that the mechanic's estimate to get it running was $2000, and I don't have that much money. He told me exactly what was wrong with it, though (bad exhaust valve #3 cylinder and bad warm-up regulator) so I am fixing it myself. Maybe I will find out why the price is so high.
