I saw the south tower fall. (archive)

I work in midtown, 3 blocks from the Empire State Building and 4 blocks from Time Square. When I heard on the radio that the south tower was falling, I rushed to my company president's office, opened the window, and looked down Fifth Avenue only to see a volcano-like plume of dust....the North tower antena peering earily through. I don't panick easily. With reports of another hi-jacked plane in the air, and the Empire State nearby, I panicked. I got the hell out my building, and headed north towards Central PArk, away from anything tall. My work required me to frequently visit WTC 1 & 2......I have crawled through ductwork in those buildings. I can't beleive they're gone. I have clients in those building....I hope I don't have to rephrase that sentance to "had clients".

The news coverage was incredible, but seeing it live made it really scary.....and I was still almost three miles away. I never thought I'd live in a war situation. But being stuck in Manhattan for over 24 hours before I could return to my home in NJ made me feel like a refuge. My heart and soul goes out to those directly effected.

If any of you know people who work for Mancinni Duffy, Keefe Bruyette Woods, or the building's ME engineer crews, I'd like to know of people accounted for.
