But those Pioneer up front. I got them in the 70-80 buck range (I didn't keep track of the model), and they sound nice. I think they would really benefit from some dense foam rubber type mats behind them.
I also found a neat sub I want to buy, but haven't heard any word on it, it's the Kenwood KSC-WA62RC self powered 6" (dual I think) sub. It fits under a seat, which is nice for those of us who really use our trunks. If your stereo has a set of preouts you are set. I've seen it for $180-200.
Even though I have sad speakers in the rear, I did recontruct the deck out of 1/4" ply, which deflects less because along with the increased rigidity, I securely bolted it to the metal deck. If I were to put some 6x9's, and that sub, it would surely sound dope.

I installed JBL 6x4s in the front they fit well & have a clear blanced sound but as the sales man advised 6x4s will not produce serious bass and so I mounted 6x9s in the rear and the system works well
all the best
The best would be "plate" speakers -- separate midrange and tweeter on a plate. They are more expensive than the "two-way" variety.
I was on a budget when replacing the original Alpines in the rear and found a set of Rockford-Fosgate two-way speakers for $50. Excelent sound for a small package.
I later sought replacements for the front and could not locate Rockford-Fosgates for the same price. The best I could do was a set of Boston CX-7e speakers for $50.
The Rockford's are far and away better speakers. Greater sensitivity and brighter sound. to balance the front with the rear I have to fade toward the Boston's, even though they are closer to me, being in the front kick panels.
Just my 2 cents.

Hey whats the best sounding speakers that will fit without cutting the car up? Haven't looked in a while, but last time I did there wasn't much available in the 4x6 size. Anyone got recommendations based on experience??
Thanks
Mike
