Is the crankcase vent hose hooked up and clear? You should have a short elbow hose that runs to a t-fitting, where you have a thin vacuum line running to the intake manifold, and then another hose of the same diameter as the elbow that runs down to another t-fitting that's stuck into the intake boot. The fitting in the valve cover might be blocked too. It sounds like for one reason or another you are not drawing vacuum from the crankcase, though. Also try unhooking the elbow directly from the valve cover, or disconnect the aux. air valve hose from the manifold and see if that provides a different result. If you don't get a variation in idle my bet would still be overrich mixture. Also check for the "rotten egg" smell from the exhaust when going uphill which is usually the result of overworking the cat converter.HTH,
Matt
This is what's strange to me. As far as i can tell the car runs fine. idles around 950 rpm, and opening a vacuum seal (rocker cap, dipstick) DOESN'T change the idle speed. The exhaust doesn't seem bad, the first few times at idle it was clear then at higher revs it will richen up and get a little dirty looking.
I did hook up the air compressor to the rocker vent pipe (w/ about 40lbs pressure) i am only noticing a *slight* air leak around the oil dipstick. I then swapped dipsticks w/ my other 320 that WILL stop when a vacuum leak is introduced. It leaked the same as the other dipstick. What might be going on?
