Just remove a hood on a BMW if you're pulling an engine or replacing the hood for body work.
ALL work is done with the hoods in place, not worth the risk of paint damage for common maintenance. Esp. on a Seven as they're heavy to hold and tighten hardware.

Use a long 13mm wrench for the removal of the single 8mm bolt holding the fan clutch on[This is the most used version for the older Sevens, they rarely got the easier to work with 32mm left hand thread water pump/clutch set-up like other BMWs.

Also watch the 2 sheetmetal screws that hold the radiator into the body. They work with large body clips that are the "thread/nut" part. These clips wear out and let the screw slip when you try to tighten them. I always install new speed nuts[what these clips are usually called] when I replace an older BMW radiator.

Change out any worn or old hoses, replace all hose clamps with new ones, and now would be the time for a engine block coolant drain if you haven't drained and refilled it in awhile.
The block drain is on the right side of the engine, near the back, and under the exhaust manifold.
