Hi! I have a few questions I hope someone can answer. My '85 735i has started to stall constantly. The only way to avoid it is to pump the gas or floor it. When I floor it, it has very little power and surges. I checked the troubleshooting list in the Chilton manual and the first thing it mentioned was the fuel injectors. I called a local mechanic and he said the injectors may need purging. Does this sound right? What is purging? Any help is appreciated.

I think they are refering to a chemical cleaning of the fuel injectors. But I suggest that before your blame the injectors take a hard look else where to see what the problem may be. When was the last time you changed your fuel filter? And is the fuel pump in the tank (you have two pumps) in operation? If possible you need to determine your fuel pressure with a pressure gauge at the fuel rail. This test will confirm or elimate the possibility that you have low fuel pressure. Also as a test unplug the O2 sensor from the computer. Its the green wire next to the main relay on the right side of the fire wall. As another test I would unplug the wire to the cold start injector. For some reason this one injector may be on all the time causing a over rich condition which would fit your symptons. Or the injector may be leaking, in that case it will have to be replaced. What did you change or do to the car before all the problem started? Let us know.
