I have the same problem with my '79 733 & it is the brake booster that is the leak source. It is fed by the power steering pump, which is why you are losing ps fluid(ATF Dexron II fluid, actually). This is the reason for the brake pressure reservoir(bomb) & the pressure flow regulator that feeds it. A bad brake bomb will cause loss of power steering boost when braking, but has little potential for leaking to the outside world. I have read here that the brake booster can be rebuilt, but have been told it's a wicked hard job. Mine only leaks about a quart a month, so I just let it drink for now.

I'm really hoping that someone can point me in the right direction with this one.

I own an 83' 733i in really clean condition. Just recently though, I noticed that I had a leak going on, steeming from under the Brake Master Cylinder. This first started showing up as a small stain, now it's completely drained my Power Steering fluid reservoir and left a beautifully ugly puddke underneath the front end of my car.

I just recently changed my Brake Master Cylinder, so I can at least confirm that it's not this piece that's leaking. One thing that I have noticed though.. is that this leak seems to be coming from the "weep hole" between the Master Cylinder and the Brake Booster.

What I'm wondering is this... "Is this in-fact the Booster that needs replacing?" or.. "Is it the infamous Brake Bomb that needs replacing?"

My brakes seem to act just fine, maybe very..very lightly squishy but.. it doesn't seem to be out of the ordinary.

I really need to get this taken care of this weekend, as it's my daily driver. I drive roughly 30 miles each way to work.

Please seomeone help. The "Bomb" runs roughly $60.00 new. The "Booster" on the other hand, runs roughly $300.00. "Quite a difference."

If anyone can possibly point me out in the right direction, I'd certainly apppreciate it.

I'd really like to know why Power Steering fluid is coming out of this area when I thought it was the Brake fluid that ran through here.

Anyway, I hope to hear from someone soon.

Thanks-A-Bunch! You've all been real lifesavers when it comes to keeping my baby feeling happy.

Cheers,

Ken
