I'am planning to change 5-speed manual to zf 4hp22 automatic tranny in my 728i. What things should be considered? What parts should be replaced, radiator, driveshafts ????. Could I use transmision from e28, or even from volvo 740s. What does letter L mean in zf transmisssion type code? For example volvo 760 gle td uses transmission zf 4hp22l.

I've heard that there would be some 'A' clutch which is easily damaged. Is it possiple to repear?

I have many queastions and I hope you could help me with them. I asked, if it is possiple to use transmission from volvo, because volvo uses zf 4hp22 tranny in some models and I live in Finland where is very many Volvos, so I could get transmission from volvo much easier than BMW.

I'm doing the opposite conversion and would be very interested in swapping some parts. What kind of shape is your 5 speed in? i know one of the more difficult parts of the conversion is that the steering column has to be removed for it passes through the pedal assy. you will also need the drive shaft, flexplate, and possibly the tranny mount from an auto car.
I have a remanufactured zf 4hp22 trans in my car with about 10,000 miles on it. (reciepts available) my radiator is in excelent condition, the trans fluid used is redline synthetic. I would be willing to swap all the parts nescessary for the conversion, but would like some small amount of money for the 4hp22 for it is almost brand new and it was VERY expensive! but if you contact me im sure we could work something out. thank you
Dan
