Sounds about right.
I am doing my heater core today as we speak. It's really not to bad of a job. I can maybe help you some (mines an 86 735i) when you dive in. So far I have about 7 hours into the prodject and that includes trouble shotting my hvac for vacuum leaks.

I figure that I have about 2.5 to 3 hours to go. let me know if I can help you somehow.
