The problem is usually associated with open solder joints on the output transistors on the ECU (Motronic) board. This problem is common to all old BMW's and not just the 745. Usually resoldering that section of the board will bring the ECU back to life. Mine is an 85 745 and the ECU is behaving just fine.

Hello all,
Im just wondering what some common problems are with the Motronic system on 745i's and if thier are any reasonable fixes. I had the jetronic in my first Seven and never had any probs with it. But ive heard about some ignition probs with the Motronic and would like to know if i should avoid this car im looking at(an 83 with the motronic) because im told it has a 'hot spot'? and wont start after it warms up...is this commom?thanks all
