You'll hate your car about half way through, but that warm air on your feet will make it all better when you're done. Get lots of information (factory manual highly recommended). Work on it only 2-3 hours per night to avoid burn-out/frustration (and thus, breaking tiny, fragile, expensive parts and making stupid mistakes like yanking out vacuum hoses that you have no hope of reattaching without ripping out your entire dashboard). Stay organized with a parts box (LOTS of little parts). Take pictures, draw pictures, write notes (no, you really won't remember how it all went together after the first week). Test vacuum motors while it's apart (see manual). Include trips to the chiropractor in your cost estimate.
It's not for a beginner, but it's very do-able for a moderately experienced DIYer with a decent tool box and a lot of patience. And WHAT A MAJOR COST-SAVER!!! Sure, time is money, but my bank account is $800 higher, the job got done right, and I probably would have watched T.V. anyway.
Have fun!

Does this sound right????? That's pretty expensive. How hard is it to do yourself? My car is a 85 735i. Do they replace everything like sensors, vac hoses, relays, what is it that cost so much? I live in Baltimore. Does anyone know a good BMW mechanic within 50 miles. Thanks for advice.
