Each side has a gear mechanism that is driven by a cable attached to a single motor located under the seat. Either the cover plate on that side has come loose, in which case the gears are not engaging or the cable has shrunk to the point that it's not engaging the gears. If it's the cable then the fix is either to use a 1/4" or so of coat hanger wire and dropped into the hole where the cable goes, or to shorten the cable sheathing by cutting off a small piece. This is the same fix for the power headrests that won't work even though the motor is running. It's easier to work on the seat if you unbolt it from the car. demet
Hello E23ers,
I just bought an oldie-but-goodie 84 633 (I know I'm in the 7 series area, but my question isn't E-type specific). The power seat (identical to the power seats on the E23) reclines only one side of the seatback, while the other side stays put, which twists the whole thing. I know this problem has come up time and again with all E24,28 and E23 cars, I was hoping someone could point me into the right direction to fixing this problem. This twist and shout is really not my favorite dance when driving this car, if you know what I mean.
Thanks in advance, sorry to be jumping boards (hopefully someone has an E23 with the same problem who can be helped in responding).
James
