Unfortunately, that's the recommended procedure for bleeding the brakes with ABS as stated in the shop manual. I've never understood why it should be so complicated but nevertheless I follow that procedure. I'll check in my 5-series Bentley manual to see if it has the same procedure also and post a followup.

I've got the factory shop manual. I've got a friend with a MBZ who wants to go in halfsies on a power brake bleeder (Motive Products - http://www.motiveproducts.com). Will this be a good tool to make changing fluid easier? Is there a better one? I've never done this on an ABS/BMW before. Do I still have to go through all the brake pumping and holding the pedal down while loosening and all that business if I am using a power bleeder? The MBZ manual sounds incredibly simple compared to the BMW.
