The best fluid is synthetic. Mobil 1 ATF or Redline ATF. If you're going to change to synthetic you'll need to perform a couple of oil changes in succession since the couple of quarts in the torque converter doesn't get drained. So you're basically diluting the old oil until it is no longer a factor. I think three changes is the magic number.

If you take the cover off to change the filter make sure you don't get any dirt into the tranny.

I am about to change the transmission fluid in my 83' 733i. Before I do, are there any particular things I should watch out for? What is the best fluid, filter and gasket to use? I have a 3HP22 transmission. Thanks to all for your help.
